Malawi German Cooperation in the Health Sector
Malawi-German Cooperation in the Health Sector is a partnership focused on making real improvement to the health status of Malawi’s population. This is to be achieved by the delivery of the
Essential Health Package (EHP), containing eleven cost-effective interventions which are offered free of charge.
In 2004, the Malawi Ministry of Health, together with its partners, established a
Programme of Work (PoW) covering a 6 year period until 2010. It is jointly implemented within the
Sector Wide Approach (SWAp).
Germany supported the SWAp from the very beginning. On behalf of BMZ (the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) Germany’s five development agencies – CIM, DED, GTZ, InWEnt and KfW – work as German Development Cooperation (GDC) on tailor-made solutions to a multitude of health problems.
